Day 33


Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
    for his compassions never fail.
 They are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
    therefore I will wait for him.”

                           Lamentations 3v22-24


Lamentations 3 v 22-24 were sent to me on a postcard by my oldest friend, when I was having a really tricky few months.  I haven't spent a lot of time studying Lamentations, but they are verses I've come back to a few times.
 
Verses 22-24 come straight after the author recognises that there are times in life that are really hard going and that sometimes "my soul is downcast within me," (v 20)  But then in verse 21 he says "Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope"..... and then he talks about God's great love and the fact we are not consumed etc...
 
We will all probably face tough times at some point in our lives, and at those times we have a choice ... I can "call to mind," a number of things; I can call to mind why I am sad, maybe start to moan, feel sorry for myself, feel like giving up, or envy others who seem to have things much easier - If I'm honest I have done all those things!  Or, I can call to mind truths that I know about God; his compassion, his faithfulnees, His love, the promise we will not be consumed, and the hope we therefore have!
