I've long been a fan of the concept of resilience, particularly for those made vulnerable. These verses seem to be the heart of it. I was privileged to be sitting beside a woman who had suffered much (on a CAP Discovery Break) when she realized the meaning of these words for her! I'm not sure which version of the Bible she had. Verse 17 said "Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him.Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong..."
What a promise.

You're right, Jenni, that's an amazing promise, love that verse. It links a bit with my verse from yesterday (that I completely forgot to comment on!) I chose mine because there was a time when I felt like I wanted to give up on being a Christian - it felt like following Jesus was very hard. And then I read the verse from Hebrews which says 'do not throw away your confidence, it will be richly rewarded'. It was like God was speaking directly to me in a heart-thumping-wow-that's-so-relevant way! He was telling me not to give up, and that it was worth it.
ReplyDeleteEver since then I've known it's been worth it to hold on to Jesus. And he has never stopped holding on to me. He's proved today's verse to be true for me too.

a great verse Jenni! a real encouragement to me this morning as I was reading it....by the way... I hope the person you referred to in your comment hadn't suffered much on a CAP Discovery Break!!! - all I ever read about those events are that they are amazing times... its just the way I read it I think :)
