It helps us to build a neg shell around us that protects us from the buffeting we can sometimes receive from people who criticise or just don't accept us as a person, maybe because of our beliefs. Being accepted by God builds our confidence and as we develop our relationship with Him we will always want to maintain it.
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
