But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.1 Peter 3:15
Chris McLeish
I chose this verse because it has been a favourite of mine for a few years and I keep coming back to it.
It gives us 3 challenges:
1. "Always" we must remember that as Christians we are never "off duty" wherever we are, we are ambassadors for Christ
2. "Be Prepared" Think about what you would say if someone asks you why you believe, it's much easier than trying to explain it whilst thinking about it on the spot.
3. "Gentleness and Respect" We have no idea what people's past is or what is going on in their life and saying the wrong thing could be harmful so we are instructed to be gentle and respectful.
How can we do this? By setting apart Christ as Lord in our hearts.
Fab verse, Chris! Part of Discipleship group is to help us all do just that... to be prepared to know and explain the awesome hope we have! Be encouraged everyone, you are in the process of doing just this....Keep going!
ReplyDeleteI find this verse interesting because it gives us motivation and urges us to tell others about our faith. I remember learning this verse a while ago it really helped me to speak out.
ReplyDeleteGuess what happened to me today? Just at home briefly inbetween hospice & hospital & 2 ladies knocked on the door...I think Jehovah's witnesses. I daren't answer (as theoretically work time) but felt very challenged about how I might have spoken to them including all those things in that verse! Prayed for them anyway.

P.S Is it just me or is the picture on the right a giant Pringle and if so where do I get one?
It's a pancake, ken! But me and my Mum thought it was a giant pringle too. I thought these verses were really useful and interesting as well.

I love this verse and the way that it sets out three challenges showing us the way to live. Talking about being prepared at dicipleship; I did a sheet of paper and we hade to note down what we would say and we headed it God in a minuit!! Always ready.
