Day 10

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

Colossians 3:16

  1. I love the first part of this verse but I admit that I find the "admonish one another" bit hard!

    1. I found the "admonish" part a bit tricky too. I've just looked up the context of the verse and it seems to be talking about peace, compassion and love; specifically referring to Jesus's message of unity and peace. Perhaps, therefore, the admonish part of this verse is particularly important. We are maybe being told to remember peace and unity whether we are singing together, teaching or even correcting one another. It should all be done with the same heart.

  2. When I was in a university CU about a hundred years ago, 500 of us, about 5% of the total undergraduate population, would cram into the university debating chamber every Saturday evening. After singing a hymn we would hear a bible exposition lasting an hour from a well known speaker. We would come away and discuss what we had heard until the small hours over endless cups of coffee.
This for me is what allowing the Word of Christ to dwell richly meant at that time, and I would like to think it set me up to cope with the vicissitudes of life that have subsequently come my way.
