Day 46

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  not by works, so that no one can boast.  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2v8-10

Day 43

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.

Psalm 23v1-3

Jesus says "I am the good shepherd" (John 10v11); we are the sheep if we hear his voice we must come and follow him.

Day 42

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13v4-7

My favourite verses from my favourite chapter in the whole of the Bible.

Know for sure that these are not the soppy, sentimental feelings that some might think, but a window into the very heart of God's love.

I have sought to emulate, albeit very unsuccessfully, the qualities described ever since my teenage years in the good times and the not so good.

Day 41

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,

Phil 3v12,13
